Expedia Fare Alert Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I create a new alert?
  • You can create a new alert from the Manage Alerts window or the window that pops up on your desktop.
    From the Manage Alerts window:
    1. Click “Create new alert.” A new window opens.
    2. Enter your departure airport.
    3. Enter your destination airport.
    4. Select one of the following search types:
      • Anytime
      • Specific month – enter your travel date range
      • Exact dates – enter your travel dates
    5. Select one of the following alert settings:
      • Reach $XXX or lower – enter the limit you want to set for this flight
      • Go up or down – select for notification if the fare changes in any direction
    6. Click “Save Alert.”
    From the pop-up window:
    1. Click “Manage alerts.” The Manage Alerts window opens.
    2. Click “Create new alert.” A new alert opens.
    3. Follow the steps above in “From the Manage Alerts window.”
  • How do I change an alert?
  • You can edit an alert from the Manage Alerts window or the window that pops up on your desktop.
    From the Manage Alerts window:
    1. Click “Edit” at the end of the row for the alert you want to change. The alert opens.
    2. Make any changes to the alert.
    3. Click “Save Alert.”
    From the pop-up window:
    1. Click “Manage alerts.” The Manage Alerts window opens.
    2. Click “Edit” at the end of the row for the alert you want to change. The alert opens.
    3. Make any changes to the alert.
    4. Click “Save Alert.”
  • How do I delete an alert?
  • You can delete an alert from the Manage Alerts window or the window that pops up on your desktop.
    From the Manage Alerts window:
    1. Select the alert you want to delete by clicking the box next to it.
    2. Click “Delete Selected.”
    From the pop-up window:
    1. Click “Manage alerts.” The Manage Alerts window opens.
    2. Select the alert you want to delete by clicking in the box next to it.
    3. Click “Delete Selected.”
  • How do I set the $ amount for the fare I want to track?
  • You can set the $ amount for the fare you want to track when you set up a new alert, or by editing an existing alert. Once a new or existing alert is opened, select the “Reach $XXX or lower” alert setting and enter the dollar amount you want to track.
  • How do I track the fare to show me any up or down price change?
  • You can set an alert to show any up or down price change for the fare you want to track when you set up a new alert, or by editing an existing alert. Once a new or existing alert is opened, select the “Go up or down.”
  • How do I keep the pop-up from closing?
  • Simply hover over the pop-up with your mouse to keep it open.
  • What does the up/down arrow signify?
  • The up/down arrow indicates that the price for the fare you are tracking has recently gone up or down. The red or green dollar amount next to the arrow shows how much it has gone up or down.
  • How do I view the matching fare?
  • You can view the matching fare by clicking the flight link in the pop-up window on your desktop or by clicking the flight link on the Manage Alerts page.
  • How do I make it so Expedia Fare Alert does not run automatically when I startup Windows?
  • The only way Fare Alert runs automatically at start-up is if you select the box “Launch Fare Alert at Windows start-up” on the Manage Alerts page. If this box is checked, simply click to uncheck it.

  • How does the price setting work?
  • If the fare that Expedia Fare Alert finds is cheaper than your price setting, Expedia Fare Alert will alert you by briefly showing a pop-up message and changing the icon to indicate it has a message for you.
  • Sometimes the price is different when I view it on the web page, why is that?
  • The prices that airlines charge for a particular flight can change rapidly. Expedia Fare Alert is showing you a price for that route recently booked by a customer. It is possible that the availability for that flight will change between when you are alerted and when you shop for the flight, so we cannot guarantee the alert price.
  • Are the fares displayed guaranteed to be available?
  • Unfortunately, they are not. As you probably know, airfare and availability changes very rapidly, so sometimes fares we display change by the time you see them on our site.
  • The pop-up message says that it cannot find any fares at the moment. What's wrong?
  • It could be that your computer is not able to connect to the internet at the moment. Expedia Fare Alert uses the Internet to check for the best prices on the Expedia site. It could also be that there is no fare between the two airports that you've selected that has been purchased recently enough to qualify as a valid low fare. You can always click the link to search our site for fares – even when Expedia Fare Alert doesn't show a price, you can still find a fare by visiting the Expedia.com website.
